With the time change the days will be much shorter and as winter approaches road conditions can deteriorate quickly. Our #1 priority is the safety of our students and our #2 priority is punctuality. Please allow five minutes on either side of the published bus schedule as unexpected events can cause the buses to run either early or late. Be prepared for winter driving conditions and keep an eye out for children as it is getting dark earlier each day.

At Douglas City School one of our goals is to provide a safe, welcoming and attractive environment for our students, parents and staff. In our on-going efforts to achieve and sustain this objective, the Douglas City School Board of Trustees has approved the installation of security cameras around the campus to discourage vandalism which has, unfortunately, become an issue.

Not only does vandalism detract from a welcoming and attractive environment, but it is a safety concern as well.

We hope that everyone who is part of the Douglas City School community supports this decision and will help us stop vandalism by being alert, aware and reporting suspicious activity. Questions or comments may be directed to the school office at 623-6350.

Fridays are school spirit days at Douglas City School. We encourage students and staff to wear their Douglas City shirts to show their school pride. Students who don't have a Douglas City shirt can show their school spirit by wearing green clothing. One random Friday per month, the class wearing the highest percentage of green will win a popcorn and juice party.

Due to liability and insurance reasons, skateboards can no longer be allowed at school. We realize that students often brought them to school to go skateboarding after school dismissed for the day, but in the future, please leave them at home and retrieve them after school. Thank you!

About Douglas City School

Douglas City is located near the Trinity River on Highway 299w 7 miles east of Weaverville. The original Douglas City School was a one room K-8th grade school with one teacher. The exact location of this school is unknown, but it was on the bluff above Douglas City. The second Douglas City School was built in 1946. The two buildings that made up the school were old Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) barracks buildings from the Harrison Gulch area. The two buildings stayed on the school site until 1974. They were removed when new earthquake building standards were required by the state. The second Douglas City School had 30-35 students and two teachers during the building of Trinity Dam.

In 1974 three new classrooms were built on the Douglas City School site and a third teacher was hired. These three classrooms are still used today. Before the first Douglas City School bus was purchased in 1965 the students had to walk to school. There were other new programs added to the school; in 1968 the Special Education Program, in 1974 the Lunch Program, in 1975 the GATE Program, in 1986 Electives, in 1992 the Breakfast Program, and finally in 1993 our Computer Lab was added.

Today, Douglas City School is still a K-8th grade school with 8 classrooms, a Gym/Multipurpose room, a Computer Lab, a bus barn, a storage building and an Administration Building. It currently has an enrollment of about 150 students.
