A computer logs activity, provides digital video/photo and data for Slow Scan TV, Image Transmission, Data Communications, FAX and voice communications. The ECU has self contained AC and DC power sources. The trailer stores and supports it's VHF/UHF and Shortwave Radio Antenna Systems. The communications can be direct or using mountaintop "repeater systems" that are solar powered and provided by another TC "Ham Radio" group.
In this post 9-11 world, your local radio amateur neighbors are part of the "Original" homeland security communications going back to WW2. One member of the group is affiliated with US Army Military Affiliate Radio System that brings even more opportunities for communications in emergencies.
Through the years the ECU has been used in Search and Rescue, Fire and Weather Emergencies, Training and Field Exercises with other Groups and Agencies. This equipment is operated to support or supply emergency communications in Trinity County or for mutual aid responses to other Northstate locations. The American Red Cross, County of Trinity and the California Department of Forestry have been supported in their activities several times by TC ARES/TCARC.
You are invited to any meeting of the Trinity County Amateur Radio Club to find out more about this Hobby that provides a valuable service during times of emergency.
The TCARC can help you become a licensed radio amateur. Morse Code is nolonger mandatory to obtain a license anymore. The sky is nolonger the limit for Ham Radio, Astronauts and Cosmonauts have been contacted from Trinity County, across town or across the world, communications is educational and exciting.
At the 2002 RC Preparedness Fair, the digital relay equipment aboard the International Space Station was used to test the TCARES wide-area message broadcast ability, with a greeting from Weaverville, "seen" on Ham Radio computer screens East to Houston, Texas., South to Mexico, and North to Canada. The TrinityCam INFOsite has information about homeland security, emergency preparedness, Ham Radio, Business, Tourism, Community Events and many other related topics. .
Often Fire, Ambulance, Public Safety and Emergency Response equipment is present at the Preparedness Day Event for your inspection. Various community groups provide hand-outs, and opportunities to join and be trained in their areas of expertise so you can serve your community. The Trinity County Red Cross has several classes and ways to serve our community.
Special thanks to LONGS DRUG STORE, Weaverville, that has consistantly supported the Red Cross Preparedness Fair and our community. Allowing the use of the parking lot area, displaying civic information, Tourism Information, and supporting local groups is greatly appreciated. Thanks Long's!!
